We provide free garage door installations for the Homes for Our Troops organization in the DFW area. We installed a free garage door and opener for SSgt Omar Milan and Homes for Our Troops. Being part of his story and journey is a huge blessing.
From https://www.hfotusa.org/building-homes/veterans/milan/:
During his third tour on Jan. 9, 2012, Marine Staff Sergeant Omar Milan, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist, was conducting post-blast analysis in support of the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines in the Nawa District of Afghanistan when he was in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion. The blast resulted in the loss of SSgt Milan’s right leg, significant injuries to his left leg, loss of fingers on his left hand, and damage to his right arm, among other injuries.
After enduring 40 surgeries and physical therapy for two years, Omar was medically retired in 2014. He now lives with his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters in Texas and says a home adapted to his injuries will help him and his family tremendously.
Omar is thankful to everyone who will contribute to his build project. “My family and I are forever grateful for everything and every single person who makes this possible.”
The International Door Association recognized Plano Overhead Garage Door with the National Humanitarian Award. The IDA is recognized as the leading industry organization for garage doors in North America. Our owners were recognized for their efforts during Hurricane Harvey, a large tornado that hit Rowlett in their service area; as well as their ongoing charitable donations, community involvement, and humanitarian efforts.
We have done many projects for Habitat for Humanity over the years in several cities. We love our community and do our part to give back whenever possible! The picture above is a project we performed many years ago in Dallas. The mission statement of Habitat for Humanity is “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.” Homes are built using volunteer labor and materials like ours at Plano Overhead Garage Door.
Plano Overhead gives regularly to the North Texas Food Bank and other local food pantries. There is plenty of need right here in our backyard. Children and seniors are particularly in need in our communities, and it doesn’t take much to make a huge impact! Plano Overhead has contributed generously to the North Texas Food Bank and surrounding food pantries for several decades!
After the Tornado outbreak in 2015, Plano Overhead provided free tarping and boarding of garage door openings that were left unsecured after the EF-4 tornado ripped through Rowlett in the eastern portion of their service area. A recently installed garage door was featured in the internationally published International Door Association magazine for surviving the tornado. The entire house was destroyed, but the garage door stood where it was installed thanks to the durability of the garage door's construction, and the fact that Plano Overhead installs all of their garage doors with upgraded hardware and 3" lags that secure the garage door to the wall even though the Dallas area does not fall into any wind load requirements. The customer said that the garage door was part of the reason that they survived the tornado. Garage doors are typically the first object to fail during a tornado as they are either sucked out of the opening or blown inwards; creating a vacuum or high pressure environment that leads to the roof being lifted off or walls caving in. Professional garage door installations matter when it comes to your home withstanding high winds!
