A customer in Richardson was very concerned about the loud popping noise that her garage door was making. We sent out one of our technicians to see what was wrong, and it turned out to be the rollers on the customer’s garage door. Out technician was able to distinguish that the ball-bearings on multiple rollers had worn down over time, and needed to be replaced. As they wear down, the spherical ball-bearings inside the roller sleeve develop edges. These edges cause the ball to skip when rotating, causing vibration. The vibration worsens over time, gradually wearing out multiple ball-bearings and eventually causing damage to other components of the garage door and garage door opener. Defective rollers eventually begin to slide through the tracks, rather than rolling- causing the wheel to snap off of the roller shaft completely.
