When to Use a Hi-Lift Track in Plano, TX

Hi-Lift 2

What is Hi-Lift track used for and why? Well, in some cases there are people that have a lot of toys, such as, lifted trucks, boats, campers, and arranged racecars. When you think about the people that have some of these possessions, you need to ask yourself, where do they keep them? That’s when the Hi-Lift comes into play.

Space or no space

If your ceiling has enough clearance, you may be able to park two cars in the same section. When you get two Range Rovers or jump to getting monster trucks involved, you may want to possibly start thinking into a conversion. Hi-Lift is the ultimate conversion when it comes to floor space. Savvy homeowners that don’t have multiple stalls in their garage space, and also don’t care to build another, can opt to install a four-post car lift that actually elevates on car high enough to park the second vehicle underneath it.

The Ultimate Conversion

When open, a standard garage door typically interferes with an elevated car, even while a car lift is a great solution for the four-post car lift in most cases. The remedy for that would simply to proceed to your conversion. Converting the existing garage door to your soon-to-be high-lift isn’t necessary for reframing work to be done. Also know that the exterior appearance of the door will not change. People that pass by while the doors are closed will not know the difference because no structural changes take place.

Hi-Lift

Hi-Lift Basics

Standard 7-foot garage doors, the tracks curve and then level into a horizontal plane about eight feet above the garage door from opening. If you only want to lift a single car to work on it from beneath, you can do so without the conversion of a garage door to a high-lift. Just keep in mind that you WILL NOT be able to open the garage door while elevating your car.

What you need

When you are ready to start your conversion, there are a few simple things you may need to proceed. New cables, high-lift drums, support brackets, angles, new torsion springs, and additional vertical track will be needed. Our well trained technicians are equipped with all of these essentials already stocked on their trucks and ready to install. We look forward to earning your business in this exciting space to expand and appreciate this new way to love your toys!

Garage Door Weatherseal: Keep the Cold Out!

Written by Nick McGregor. Posted in Insulate Your Garage Door in Plano, TX, Plano, TX, Insulated Garage Door, Posts for Garage Doors & Openers in Plano, TX

Accents Doors with Windows

When we got a call from a customer in Plano about there being an opening at the bottom of one of our previous customers garage door, we knew right off the bat that there was a weatherseal problem. When we sent one of our senior techs out to his rescue we furthermore explained the benefits of replacing old weatherseal on the bottom of his garage door.

Weatherseal begins to shrink, crack, and no longer serve its’ primary function after a matter of only a few years in the extreme Texas heat.  He told the customer that with the winter months upon us it is more important than any other time of the year to have an accurately sealed garage door opening. This can be the transformation between 5 to 10 degrees in temperature in the garage- especially on windy days in the coldest months.  We quoted him a fair price and did the installation while we were already there since we carry the materials on all of our garage door service trucks. We were pleased to satisfy once again another client in the Plano, Texas area!

If you have questions about the benefits of replacing your bottom weatherseal on your garage door, please give us a call!  972-422-1695.

Selecting the Right Garage Door Lubricant

Written by Nick McGregor. Posted in About Our Different Garage Door Services in Plano, TX, Garage Door Maintenance in Plano, TX, Posts for Garage Doors & Openers in Plano, TX, Types of Garage Door Repair in Plano, TX

WD40 Door LubeWD40

Lubriplate

WD-4o

The most common belief is that WD-40 fixes everything. Well, almost. Regular WD-40 can be used for many purposes in relation to servicing and repairing a garage door. However it’s not the best lubricant to use altogether. WD-40 is Great to use in order to flush out screw drives, clean out old grease, loosening joints and hinges, removing dirt and residue, extricating stuck screws and bolts, and especially to prevent rust. Regular WD-40 is NOT A LUBRICANT, rather it cleans objects and leaves them dry- NOT lubricated. WD-40 provides water displacement, and is actually a DE-greaser.

Lubriplate White Lithium Grease

Lubriplate is best used for screw drive rails, rollers, plastic gears, and bearings. Lubriplate is a long lasting, thick lubricant that performs well in cold tempuratures, and works very well for specific garage door applications that involve friction.

3-in-One Garage Door Lube Silicone Spray

3-in-one garage door lube waterproofs, protects, lubricates, and preserves rubber, plastic, vinyl, leather, metal & wood. Silicone spray is a convenient aerosol applicant of silicon. It provides general purpose lubrication to eliminate squeaking. Other purposes include lubricating, protecting and cleaning everything from hinges, locks, cables, and torsion springs. It also helps prevent rust & corrosion. This silicon spray is highly effective at covering a wide range of issues that garage doors encounter over time. There are very few applications in which this lubricant is not usable.

So which Lubricant is Best?

The 3-in-One Garage Door Lube is the best overall garage door lubricant as far as an over the counter remedy. The truth is…to properly and professionally service and maintain a garage door opener system, you’re going to need all of these lubricants- and maybe more. Please be sure to do yourself a favor and do not over-grease or lubricate the tracks, as it can cause rollers to come dislodged, and tends to build up and cause a mess over time. Keep in mind that anything you spray will be hanging over your car when the door is in the up position. It is best to gently wipe excess lubricant from any parts on the door, run the garage door a few times, and wait a few hours before parking underneath them.

Garage Door Safety

Written by Nick McGregor. Posted in Garage Door Safety in Plano, TX, Posts for Garage Doors & Openers in Plano, TX

Safety Image

Not many people realize that the largest moving and most dangerous object in their home is actually their garage door.  Not many of us think about the garage door until it won’t open when we’re trying to get to work that dreadful Monday, or when it won’t close when we’re trying to get to our daughters’ soccer playoff game.  The truth is that a majority of homeowners in the United States have come to rely on the garage door as their primary source of entry when the come and go.  The garage door has become the front door for most American families.

Why is this important?  Being the largest, most dangerous, and sometimes most neglected part of your home is not an ideal combination.  Garage door safety has come a long ways in the past 60 years, but routine  maintenance can prevent a major headache from happening to you.  Here are a few tips regarding garage door safety for your home.

Re-code your garage door remotes when you move to your new home.  You changed your front door locks didn’t you?  It is very simple and only takes a few seconds to make sure that none of the old neighbors or tenants have access to your garage.  This is also a great time to schedule your first maintenance to familiarize yourself with the condition of your garage door and opener.

Keep the tracks clear of obstructions.  Brooms, shovels, shelves, trash cans….you name it.  It doesn’t take much to throw a cable off of your garage door if something is caught on one side of the rails inside your garage.  Make sure that you family knows the importance of making sure that that tricycle, motorcycle, or car bumper can really get damaged if they are left in the way of a closing garage door.

Never override the safety sensors.  If you have to hold down the wall button to close your garage door, or if your door reverses; you need to schedule service immediately.  This  usually indicates that your safety sensors are out of alignment, and would fail to prevent the door from closing on your vehicle, a child, or a pet.  The garage door opener is reversing because it is telling you that it can no longer sense whether something is blocking the beam any longer because the sensors are out of alignment.

Never allow children to play in the garage unsupervised.  It is very important to be sure that you explain to your children the importance of understanding how dangerous a garage door can be.  Explain to your children how to use the garage door and garage door opener properly and safely.  Fingers can get pinched, and there are many sharp objects along the inside of the garage door itself.  Make sure that your family knows to never touch any of the moving parts at any time.

Stop running under your garage door as you close it!  If you don’t have a remote to operate the door, it is never safe to attempt to press the wall button and run out quickly underneath he garage door.

Proper instruction and education can make your garage a safer place!  If you have questions about garage door safety, make sure to consult your local professional.
